to Hang with Your Teen Son This Autumn Holidays π
MON 8 APRIL 2024, WRITTEN BY JACKIE BARON
Autumn is definitely in the air, and it's the perfect time to bond with your teen son in the upcoming school holidays! Now donβt start sweating, gasping for air or hyperventilating at the thought of bonding with your teen son and nor should he have that moment of βcringeβ when you propose the idea to him!!!
Here at Neon Goat, we're all about keeping things fun, fresh, and even (dare I say it) a little bit cool. So, we've put together a list of 10 top tips to help you make the most of your time together this school holidays. Let's dive in!
Β
1. Outdoor Adventure: Β
No - donβt go thinking the two of you (or more if youβre like me have more than one teen son) - are embracing the βhills of alive like the sound of musicβ....but perhaps more so embrace the crisp autumn air with a hike or bike ride through the local national park. Better still - grab one of your girlfriends and her son too and it's a great way to get some exercise and perhaps even sneak in some Instagram-worthy pics (for you to post - not him!).
2. Β Be a pickle!:
Not literally! If your lives are anything like ours, school and club sports take up 90% of our lives but sometimes (if youβre lucky) these sports and competitions take a vacation themselves during school holidays and itβs an awesome time to take the opportunity to play sports youβve never tried or never have the time to play. Pickle Ball andΒ Padel Tennis seem to be getting crazy popular and Iβm definitely going to book a court these school holidays with my boys. If youβre in Sydney - checkout www.sydneyracquetclub.com. A great opportunity to also pack the Neon Goat's Shvitz Spritz or Shvitz Stick for in betweenΒ match play!
3. Movie marathon:
Cosy up with a blanket and binge-watch some classic movies or latest releases or your son's favourite series. Don't forget the popcorn or make his favourite high protein smoothie or snack!
AVOID THAT MOMENT OF 'CRINGE'
4. Cooking Challenge:
For those serious foodies out there - team up and try your hand at cooking some autumn-inspired dishes.Β
Β
5. Date Night:
Pick a new restaurant together or a new cuisine and expand your restaurant repertoire and ask your son out for date night! Check out if there are any food festivals in your area during the school holidays but be adventurous and try something new together!
Β
6. Game Night:
Break out the board games or video games for a night of friendly competition. May the best player win!
Β
7. Bonfire Bonanza:
Gather around a bonfire, roast marshmallows, and share stories. It's a great way to bond and stay warm on a chilly evening. Portable fire pits have become increasingly popular so maybe do a bit of research and surprise your kids these school holidays without necessarily having to go camping!
Β
8. Sports Day:
Whether shooting hoops, going for a brisk beach swim or kicking a soccer ball, spending time outdoors playing sports is a great way to connect.
Β
9. Shop 'til you Drop:
If your boys are anything like mineβ¦whatever they wore last school holidaysΒ - doesnβt fit now! Who knows when theyβll stop growing, but the school holidays are always the perfect time to βguilt-freeβ shop for them (with a sneaky purchase or two for yourself!) - and get them fitted for the Winter ahead whether it be rugby boots (that actually fit), a new pair of Ugg boots or yesβ¦.always another hoodie!
Β
10. Volunteer Together:
Give back to your local community by volunteering at a local charity or food bank. It's a rewarding way to spend time together and teach them the importance of helping others.
Β
So there you have it, folks! Ten top tips to keep things cool with your teen son these autumn school holidays. Remember, it's all about making memories and enjoying each other's company. Happy holidays, and don't forget to remind your boys to stay fresh with their Neon Goat!
